Sanjo Ashram

A Catechist sister belongs to the Missionaries of Mary Immaculate bought an estate in Dhanora and started a convent in 1922. Until 1925 a priest visited from Nagpur to look after the spiritual needs of the sisters and Catholics. In 1925 Rev. Fr. Bonnevie, MSFS, was appointed as the first resident priest and later an orphanage and a Hindi medium school were started.

The Catechist Sisters left Dhanora in 1946 and the estate was purchased by the Prefecture Apostolic of Jabalpur. The Jabalpur diocese had been using this estate until they handed over the land and buildings to the Congregation of the Rosarians. Two thirds of the property belongs to the Rosarian Congregation and the rest is with the Dhanora Church. It was one of the first and old mission stations of Jabalpur Diocese. From 1963 onwards the diocese is making mass wine in this mission station for the diocese and other diocese of Madhya Pradesh. The diocese handed over this work too to the Rosarians.

Sanjo Ashram was inaugurated and blessed by Most Rev. Theophane M. Thanikunnel O. Praem, Bishop of Jabalpur and Very Rev. Fr. K.P. Xavier CR, Prior General of the Congregation of the Rosarians on 25th October, 2002. St. Joseph is the patron of the Sanjo Ashram. Pioneer members of the Ashram were Rev. Fr. Christudas, Bros. Shanthiprakash and Julius Kujur. Later the Rosarian sisters were also brought by the same bishop to pray for the diocese. This convent is situated in the same village and our priests help them in their spiritual matters.
