Nishkalanka Ashram
Under the guidance of our holy Founder Servant of God B.A. Thomas, Nishkalanka Ashram was founded on 18th January, 1955. This ashram was dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The pioneers of this ashram were Fr. L. Francis, Bro. Rayappar, Bro. T. Linus, Bro. Lucas and Bro. Lourdumarian. They started their journey on 6th January, 1955 from South and they reached Kunkuri on 11th January 1955.
On 18th January, 1955 morning on the feast of St. Peters’ Chair at Rome Bishop Most Rev. Oscar Serverin offered Mass in this New Ashram. He was very happy that his long-felt desire had been fulfilled, namely to have a house of contemplatives of our Lady preferably of a Congregation of Indian origin, in his diocese. He expected great things from this monastery for the glory of God.
From the beginning, the members were facing a lot of problems from nearby cowherds. Once a sadhu, leader of an Arya Samaj, came with a lot of young Hindu boys, made a lot of noise saying that our servants were beating the cows mercilessly. They gave a written complaint to the police who in turn found the case baseless. In spite of this and many such obstacles our Blessed Mother was always guiding and protecting the ashram. At present the inmates of the ashram enjoy peace and tranquility and adore the Eucharistic Lord as per the Rosarian traditions. This is a formation house for aspirants in North India. Now it is in the city and surrounded by many religious communities including our Rosarian sisters. It serves many religious as well as to people for spiritual and material needs.
